downhill. The wind today was out of the North, which happens to be
exactly the direction we were going. But this wasn't one of your
average run of the mill winds, but the kind that makes you cycle
downhill. At one point Pete was even caught making obscene hand
guestures in the direction of the prevailing winds.
To add insult to injury it also started raining. awesome. At least
we are getting a good introduction to what it means to be cycling in
the South of NZ.
Originallly we planned on riding all the way to Te Anau (101kms) but
eventually decided we would stay at Manapauri for the night. Before
leaving we agreed if the cycling wasn't fun then we would stop... well
guess what: cycling all day in gale force winds and rain isn't fun!
Riding Terror Rating for the day: 4 (but it would of only taken a
mechanical failure to drive it up to a 5).
-or as the Flight of the Conchords would say: "I'm not crying, it's
just been raining on my face"
Stats:
Start - Tuatapere
End - Manapouri
Distance - 76.57 (but felt like 300)
Time - 5:32:18
Average Speed - 13.8
Wind Speed - 30 to 59 km/h from the north

ReplyDeleteThat should be a general rule for everything in life (if it's not fun, don't do it), but then, I'd hardly get out of bed.
